Spider Family Baby Jar Candy Dishes!

Isn’t this baby food jar spider family cute?!  They are pretty simple to create and make a spooky addition to your Halloween décor.  I promise this is my last Halloween baby food jar post (at least for this year)! Below are the directions for how to make each spider family member.

Baby Spider Candle

Materials:

– Small baby food jar

– Four black pipe cleaners

– Two small googly eyes (I purchased a variety pack of googly eyes at Walmart)

– Hot glue gun/glue

– Black Yarn (I used Isaac Mizrahi Craft yarn in Astoria from Michaels)

– Battery-operated candle

Directions:

1. Cut the black pipe cleaners in half.  You should now have eight pipe cleaners that will serve as the spider’s legs.

2. Bend the pipe cleaners so they look like spider legs.  You may want to hold them up to the jar to figure out how long to make them.

3. Either glue or hold 4 of the legs on either side of the jar however you would like them to be arranged.

4. Wrap the jar with the yarn starting at the top and working your way down.  Wrap the yarn around the legs (pipe cleaners) as you go to hold them in place.  Hot glue the yarn to the jar when needed.  You will probably only need glue at the end where the jar starts to curve down at the bottom.

5. Glue two small googly eyes on the jar.

6.  Place a battery-operated candle in the jar.

7.  Light and enjoy your baby spider! Place the Baby Spider Candle along with the Mommy Spider Jar and Daddy Spider Jar for a cute and spooky Halloween display.

Mommy Spider Jar

Materials:

– Medium sized baby food jar with lid

– Eight black pipe cleaners

– Two medium sized googly eyes (I purchased a variety pack of googly eyes at Walmart)

– Hot glue gun/glue

– Black Yarn (I used Isaac Mizrahi Craft yarn in Astoria from Michaels)

Directions:

1. Fold the black pipe cleaners so they resemble spider legs and cut them to whatever length you would like them to be.  You may need to hold them up to the jar to determine how long to make them.

2. Either glue or hold 4 of the legs on either side of the jar however you would like them to be arranged.

3. Wrap the jar with the yarn starting at the top (below the lip of the jar) and working your way down.  Wrap the yarn around the legs (pipe cleaners) as you go to hold them in place.  Hot glue the yarn to the jar when needed.  You will probably only need glue at the end where the jar starts to curve down at the bottom.

4. Wrap the outside of the lid with the yarn starting in the center of the top of the lid.  You may wish to use glue or double-sided tape.  You can find directions for my yarn-wrapped baby food jar lids here.

5. Glue two medium sized googly eyes on the jar.

6.  If you choose, you may store something in the jar such as candy or small objects.

7. Place the lid on the jar and enjoy looking at your creepy mommy spider! Place the Mommy Spider Jar along with the Daddy Spider Jar and Baby Spider Candle for a cute and spooky Halloween display.

Materials:

– Large sized baby food jar

– Eight black pipe cleaners

– Two large sized googly eyes (I purchased a variety pack of googly eyes at Walmart)

– Hot glue gun/glue

– Black Yarn (I used Isaac Mizrahi Craft yarn in Astoria from Michaels)

Directions:

1. Fold the black pipe cleaners so they resemble spider legs.  I did not cut the pipe cleaners for the daddy spider.  You may choose to cut them to whatever length you wish.

2. Either glue or hold 4 of the legs on either side of the jar however you would like them to be arranged.

3. Wrap the jar with the yarn starting at the top of the lip of the jar* and working your way down.  Wrap the yarn around the legs (pipe cleaners) as you go to hold them in place.  Hot glue the yarn to the jar when needed.  You will probably only need glue at the top of the lip to hold it in place and at the bottom of the jar where it starts to curve inward.

5. Glue two large googly eyes on the jar.

6.  Put some candy inside the jar.  Put the Daddy Spider Jar along with the Mommy Spider Jar and Baby Spider Candle for a cute and spooky Halloween display.

*If you want to add a lid to your jar, do not wrap the lip of the jar so the lid will fit.  See the Halloween Candy Dishes post for directions on how to wrap your lid with yarn.
