Valentine’s Day Pom-Pom Critters

 

If you are looking for a fun and easy craft for you or your little ones to make this Valentine’s Day, make some cute pom-pom creatures!  I made a love bug, lovebirds, and a little pig with felt heart-shaped body parts.  Have fun coming up with your own Valentine’s Day creatures or follow my directions below to make the animals shown in the above picture!

Pom-Pom Love Bug

Materials:

– 1 large pink pom pom

– 1 medium black pom pom

– 2 small googly eyes

– 1 pink pipe cleaner

– Felt in colors: light pink and black

– Hot glue gun/hot glue

– Scissors

Directions:

1. Hot glue the black pom pom (which will serve as the head) to the pink pom pom.

2. Cut out a heart shape from the pink felt which will serve as the wings.

3. Cut out tiny heart shapes from the black felt which will be the spots on the wings.

4. Glue the tiny black felt hearts to the large pink felt heart.

5. Glue the pink felt heart on top of the pink pom pom so the point of the heart faces the head of the love bug.

6. Glue the googly eyes to the head.

7. Cut two small pieces off of the pipe cleaner and glue them to the top of the head to form antennas.  Bend them into shape.

8. OPTIONAL: Add some pipe cleaner legs to the body.

Pom-Pom Lovebirds

Materials:

– 1 large red pom pom and 1 medium red pom pom

– 1 large white pom pom and 1 medium white pom pom

– 4 googly eyes

– Felt in colors: red, white, and light pink

– Hot glue gun/hot glue

– Scissors

Directions:

1. Glue the medium red pom pom on top the large red pom pom.  Glue the medium white pom pom to the large white pom pom.

2. Glue two googly eyes to the medium red pom pom (the lovebird’s head) and to the medium white pom pom (the other lovebird’s head).

3. Cut a long heart shape from the white felt and another one from the red felt.  These will be the beaks of the birds.

4. Glue the heart-shaped beaks to each lovebird’s head (the white beak should be glued to the red bird and the red beak should be glued to the white bird).

5. Cut two heart shapes from the light pink felt to make the bellies of the birds.  Glue them in the center of the front of the large pom pom bodies.

6. Cut two heart-shapes from white felt and two heart shapes from red felt to make the wings for each bird.  Glue them to the sides of each bird (the white wings should be glued to the red bird and the red wings should be glued to the white bird). The picture below shows a wing on the white bird.

7. Cut two more smaller heart shapes from the white felt and two from the red felt also.  These smaller hearts will be the feet.

8. Glue the two small white hearts to the bottom of the red lovebird and the two small red hearts to the bottom of the white bird.

Pom-Pom Pig

   Materials:

– 2 light pink pom poms (I could only find small ones)

– 2 googly eyes

– Felt in colors: bright pink and black

– 1 pink pipe cleaner

– Hot glue gun/hot glue

– Scissors

Directions

1. Glue the two pink pom poms together.

2. Decide which pom pom will be the pig’s head and glue the two googly eyes into place.

3. Cut two heart-shaped ears from the pink felt and glue them into place on top the head.

4. Cut a heart-shaped snout from the pink felt and two tiny heart shapes from the black felt to serve as the holes in the snout.

5. Glue the tiny black felt hearts to the heart-shaped snout and then glue the snout in place on the pig’s head.

6. Cut two heart-shaped hooves from the pink felt and glue in place on the front of the pig’s body.

7. Cut a piece off of the pink pipe cleaner and curl it into a tail. Glue the tail in place on the back of the pig.
