PATTERN NOTES
The entire project is made using two strands of yarn held together.
The body of the mermaid cozy is made first in joined rounds of half double crochet stitches. Each round is completed with a slip stitch in the first stitch of the round (do not count the slip stitch used to join each round as a stitch).
The first stitch of each round is made in the very first stitch of the previous round (the same stitch in which the join/slip stitch and ch-1 was made).
The mermaid tail piece is made separately and sewn onto the sleeve.

***You should now have the mermaid tail piece complete and ready to be sewn onto the sleeve. Follow the directions below to assemble the sleeve.

ASSEMBLY
Use your tapestry needle and the long tail you left on the slip knot at the beginning of Row 1 to sew the the tail along Row 1 to the center of Round 10 of the body of the sleeve. Neatly weave in and secure your yarn on the inside of the sleeve.

Use your small tapestry/sewing needle and a strand of white (button color) yarn to sew/securely attach the button onto the sleeve. Position the button so that it is centered above the tail at the top of the sleeve. Once you have securely attached the button, make sure to secure your yarn on the inside of the sleeve.
Make sure you are now able to fold up the mermaid tail and attach it to the button. You should be able to do this over the arm of a standard beach/lawn chair so that it stays in place and holds your drinking can/cup.

*** After you weave in and secure all loose ends on the inside of the sleeve, your mermaid chair cozy is finished! Attach it around the arm of your favorite beach/lawn chair so you can use it to hold your drink while you relax!
