Valentine’s Day Sucker Saver

I used my crochet heart appliqué to create a Valentine’s Day Sucker Saver similar to my Halloween Sucker Savers. You can use these heart-shaped sucker savers as a cute way to gift lollipops on Valentine’s Day, or, if your kids are like mine and like to save the rest of their lollipops for later, you can make them in different colors and use them to distinguish whose lollipop is whose (just make sure to re-wrap the lollipop in plastic wrap or in its original wrapper before sticking the lollipop back into the sucker saver). These sucker savers work best with flat pops (like the heart-shaped tiger pops) or smaller spherical pops (like Dum Dums).

  1. Make 2 of my heart appliqués. Pattern found here.
  2. Place the appliqués on directly top of each other with the right sides facing out (wrong sides touching).
  3. Use a tapestry needle and a strand of yarn in the same color to sew the hearts together along their outside perimeters, making sure to leave the bottom open (wide enough so you can slide your lollipop in the opening). Sew them together using the sc stitches you worked when creating the edging of the appliqués.  I started sewing mine at about the 6th row of the heart and worked up and around the bumps at the top and back down to about the 6th row on the other side.
  4. Weave in and secure your yarn on the inside of the sucker saver. Once you have all loose ends woven in, you are finished and can insert your lollipop into the bottom of the sucker saver.
