Cut 3-5 strands (about 3 inches long each) of silver sparkle yarn. Knot them at the bottom (the knot is to keep the strands from slipping out of the top of the hat) and use a tapestry needle to pull the top ends through the center of the top of the hat.
Optional Year Appliqué/Embroidery
Use a tapestry needle and silver sparkle yarn to create a series of back-stitches in the shape of the numbers needed for the year.
***Another easier method would be to cut a strand of silver sparkle yarn for each number in the year and position it on the hat in the shape of the number. You can then hot glue or sew them on using a needle and thread.
