Sporty Newborn Hat and Bootie Set Pattern
I attended a baby shower for another of my cousins this past weekend and decided to make a matching hat and bootie set for their baby girl who is expected to arrive soon. Please see below for the hat pattern if interested. The bootie pattern will be my next post!
HAT PATTERN
SIZE
Newborn – 3 months
MATERIALS
– 5.5mm (I) hook
– 3.25mm (D) hook
– Loops & Threads Impeccable worsted weight (4) yarn in Arbor Rose (main hat color)
– Loops & Threads Impeccable worsted weight (4) yarn in White (hat trim color)
– Caron Simply Soft worsted weight (4) yarn in White (yarn I used for embellishment)
– Tapestry needle for sewing and weaving in ends
– Scissors
ABBREVIATIONS
– ch = chain
– chs = chains
– dc = double crochet
– hdc = half double crochet
– sc = single crochet
– slst = slip stitch
– st = stitch
– sts = stitches
DIRECTIONS
Use a 5.5mm (I) hook. The hat is worked in continuous rounds (no chains or joins).
Rnd 1: Magic circle, 6 sc in circle. (6 sc)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around. (12 sc)
Rnd 3: Repeat [sc in next st, 2 sc in next st] around. (18 sc)
Rnd 4: Repeat [sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st] around. (24 sc)
Rnd 5: Repeat [sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st] around. (30 sc)
Rnd 6: Repeat [sc in next 4 sts, 2 sc in next st] around. (36 sc)
Rnd 7: Repeat [sc in next 5 sts, 2 sc in next st] around. (42 sc)
Rnd 8: Repeat [sc in next 13 sts, 2 sc in next st] around. (45 sc)
Rnds 9-21: Sc in each st around, at the end of row 21, slst to next st, fasten off and weave in loose ends. (45 sc)
Rnd 22: Attach white yarn (or whatever color you want for the trim) to the same st as slst at the end of row 21 and sc around. Slst to first sc at beginning of round, fasten off and weave in loose end. (45 sc)
“X” Embellishment (Make 2)
Use a 3.25mm (D) hook.
Row 1: Using white yarn, ch 20, dc in 3rd ch from hook, hdc in next ch, sc in next st, slst in the next 12 chs, sc in the next ch, hdc in the next ch, dc in the last ch, fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing onto hat.
ASSEMBLY
Simply sew each of the 2 embellishments you made onto the front of the hat in the shape of an X.
