Witch Stocking Leg Warmers

Witch Leg Warmers

Yet another last-minute creation before Halloween night! Both of my daughters were witches this year and since I was expecting it to be a chilly night for trick-or-treating, I thought it would be perfect to make them some striped leg warmers to match their dresses. These would be fun to make in all colors and sizes!

Don’t miss my DIY broomstick for another cute witch costume accessory!!

Since I made them specifically for my six-year-old and almost three-year-old, these patterns will probably have to be adjusted to fit children of different ages/sizes. I would say the smaller size (berry color) would fit most two or three-year-olds and the larger size (green color) would fit most five and six-year-olds. See below for the pattern if you are interested in making a pair.

Smaller Size Pattern (Fits most 2-3 year-olds)

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS

One leg warmer is approximately 10 inches long from top to bottom of warmer and about 3½ inches wide when lying flat.

MATERIALS

– Size J/10/6.00mm crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge

– Size 3.00mm crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge

– Worsted weight (4) yarn in your Main Color (MC) choice (I used Red Heart Soft yarn in Berry.)

– Worsted weight (4) yarn in your Alternate Color (AC) choice (I used Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice in Dark Grey Heather.)

– Tape measure

– Tapestry needle for weaving in ends

– Scissors

– Tapestry needle for weaving in ends

– Stitch markers

ABBREVIATIONS

– ch = chain

– chs = chains

– hdc = half double crochet

– hdc2tog = half double crochet 2 stitches together (hdc decrease)

– BPhdc = back-post half double crochet

– FPhdc = front-post double crochet

– slst = slip stitch

– st = stitch

– sts = stitches

– MC = Main Color

GAUGE

4 hdc = 1 inch; 4 rows = 1½ inches

SPECIAL NOTES

  • The first st of each round is done in the same stitch as the beginning chain 2 (all rounds start in the same stitch as beginning chain 2).
  • Make sure to join your rounds to the first hdc of the round (not the chain).
  • When changing color on the stripes, join the new color while completing the last hdc (half double crochet) of the previous round (by pulling through the new color when you have three loops on the hook in the previous color to complete the final hdc).
  • The yarn is cut after each color change. When you cut the yarn after changing color, leave a long enough tail to weave in the ends as you work.
  • You may want to try them on the child as you work in case you need to add or subtract stitches in certain rounds for a better fit.
